At the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Marlin Bree takes a rest beside some of the big boats featured at the world's biggest boat show. He was at this international boating event to pick up a Boating Writer's International Grand Prize -- for writing about small boat adventures.

Persistence is towed behind the 1992 Suzuki Sidekick. Here Loris and I are on are way to Grand Portage, MN, along Superior's north shore.I'll be sailing Superior's northernmost arc, where I encountered the near fatal "storm of the century." This adventure became Wake of the Green Storm.

The would-be visitor to Lake Superior who wanted to visit the Fitzgerald

I was on Stan Turner's show Saturday on WLBB (1220am)and he surprised me with a question: A tourist wanted to visit the Edmund Fitzgerald --what advice would you give?Heh. Heh. Stan's always good for a laugh, but this was an actual question someone wrote to the state tourism board for information about. He jokingly posed it to me. All I could think of was...."take a deep breath." It's a long way down. And now that I think about it, the visitor better take along a flashlight, too! It's dark down there at 550 feet. On the other hand, during the off tourism season, it's not too crowded. And, oh, yes: the Fitz isn't going anywhere.
