One observant fan saw an E-bay ad for a boat that looked an awful lot like Yankee Girl, the 10-foot sloop that Gerry Spiess piloted across the North Atlantic and the South Pacific (see Alone Against the Atlantic pages). But it turns out that the 8-foot 6-inch boat was a knockoff and built by a high school kid back in 1984, no doubt as a future ocean-girdler. The pix show the replica boat in really tough shape, but not to worry -- this is not the original Yankee Girl. Gerry's original and one and only Yankee Girl is safe. She's stored indoors in climate contolled comfort at the Minnesota History Museum in St. Paul.
